Day 1 - SDARL Alumni In Vietnam and Cambodia

The SDARL Alumni have officially landed in Southeast Asia!

Day 1 in Hanoi, Vietnam

After 24 hours of travel from Sioux Falls, SD, and a quick night’s rest, we had the opportunity to tour several small-scale farming operations in the city of Hanoi. One highlight was visiting an integrated duck and carp farm — a fascinating example of efficiency and resourcefulness. Ducks are raised in pens above the water, with excess feed dropping below to feed the carp. The ducks are fed a pellet mix of corn, soy, and wheat. This is a simple but effective system that maximizes inputs and minimizes waste.

It’s always incredible to see how agriculture adapts across cultures and climates. We’re excited to keep learning, asking questions, and bringing insights home to South Dakota.

Stay tuned for more from Vietnam and Cambodia!
