Sixth-generation farmer and Pioneer Seed representative, Corey Chicoine of Elk Point, SD was elected President of Class XI at the Agtegra Seminar on Ruralvitality and Entrepreneurs in Aberdeen & Milbank. Each class elects a President who will serve on the Board of Directors and represent the class as a liaison for communication between staff and the class. Corey will also serve as chair of different committees of the SDARL board throughout his three terms of board service.
When asked why he wanted to take part in SDARL Corey said, “I believe in a lifetime of learning. Whether it be through reading books, attending seminars, or simply grabbing coffee with a colleague, making an effort to learn and better oneself is something I have always been passionate about. Growing up on my family’s farm outside of Elk Point planted the seed of this passion. In agriculture, and farming in particular, the path to success involves learning from your mistakes and constantly striving to perfect how you raise your crop.” Chicoine added a Benjamin Franklin quote that fittingly said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
Chicoine is clearly ready to take what he is learning about leadership and apply it before he has even graduated by stepping up to run and win the election for Class President. Congratulations Corey.
