The Rapid City Chamber of Commerce annually recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to agriculture in western South Dakota. At a ceremony on December 5th, the “Ag Producer of the Year” award was given to the Slovek family, pictured at top (from left, Bill Slovek, SDARL IV, his wife Pennie, and Bo Slovek, SDARL IX). They were recognized for innovation in farming and ranching practices, and their involvement in national and statewide organizations. The “Aggie of the Year” award was given to Silvia Christen (SDARL VII) for her advocacy and work on community projects, including the Central States Fair.
