Dr. Robert Thaler (SDARL III) has been named the interim Chair of the Department of Animal Science at South Dakota State University. Bob replaces Dr. Joe Cassady, who has been appointed the South Dakota Corn Endowed Dean of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences.
Bob, a professor of animal science and SDSU Extension Swine Specialist, was presented as the 2021 recipient of the Distinguished Professor Award – the highest level of scholarly distinction given to any faculty member who exemplifies good character, professional integrity and outstanding citizenship within the university community. He is a former member of the SDARL Board of Directors and represents South Dakota State University as an ex-officio board member of the South Dakota Pork Producer’s Council.
It is anticipated that a permanent Chair of the Department of Animal Science will be selected within one year.
