Each SDARL class is comprised of approximately thirty individuals from a variety of locations and occupations. They have all demonstrated past leadership, a thirst for
additional learning, and a willingness to serve.
The class meets 12 times over 18 months for seminars where they learn the skills, knowledge and character of leaders. Seminar topics include:
Technology, Innovation, and State-specific Agriculture
Policy, Finance, Marketing, and Logistics
Energy, Natural Resources, and the Environment
Most of the seminars are three to four days in length, held at various locations around the State of South Dakota. The National Study Seminar is one week long in Washington, D.C. The International Study Seminar is 10-12 days in a foreign country that has significant influence on U.S. and South Dakota agriculture.
The class members learn from the high-quality and relevant speakers that appear before them at the seminars, but they also learn from each other and the network of SDARL graduates who continue to have a positive and profound impact on agriculture and our rural communities every day.
